Subhash Gupta was a rare leg-spin legend for India. He spun the ball viciously, which often misled the batsmen. The supreme tribute was paid to him by none other than Gary Sobers, who remarked that Gupte was the best among the leg-spinners that he had seen. Flight and guile were his major strengths. He picked up wickets against all prominent oppositions.
Playing his first test in the year 1951-52, Gupte went on to play 36 tests and scalped 149 wickets. He later relocated to Trinidad after his career was cut short by an infamous incident. Gupte will always be remembered as a pioneering leg-spinner.
